How does the Lumia 900 hold up under the magnifying glass of the Ars OpenForums?

Nokia's new Lumia 900 smartphone marks its attempt at a comeback into the US smartphone market. The new device is also the flagship Windows Phone Mango device for the American market. Casey Johnston reviewed the 900 earlier this week on Ars. Then on Wednesday, we reported that Nokia will be giving Lumia 900 customers a $100 credit for loss of data and poor connectivity.

Now that the 900 is in users' hands, conversations around it are springing up. The Lumia 900's got a big burden on its shoulders, and the Ars OpenForum's thread on Windows Phone 7 turned its focus on its device recently. The thread is pretty long, so give yourself time to read through it and catch up. You'll find discussions around the Lumia 900 appear around page 35.

In her review, Casey mentioned that "If you don't need to take cost into account and are a power user looking for the best phone in terms of performance and design, you're probably going to walk on from the Lumia 900 to greener iOS and Android pastures."

How does that statement in our review compare against the discussions in the Ars OpenForum? Member Happysin provided his own in-depth review (which you can read in its entirety in the thread): "I really like the phone. It's a no-brainer upgrade for 1st-gen Windows Phone owners, from a phone perspective. However, AT&T has good reason to give people pause (in the US, of course). If you live in an area where LTE has been deployed, AT&T has a very compelling network to use. But you will pay for it. If you're ok with that, I think it's a solid choice. However, if you live in an area without LTE, I just can't see a value proposition that makes the the Lumia 900 on AT&T make sense."

The Lumia has many solid features, and yet, Peter Bright could not recommend it to US customers because of AT&T's poor support, and doubts about future software upgrades for the device.

Other users like Polar Bear noted that some of the poor wireless performance problems reported by those on AT&T may be indeed be a deterrent: "I thought about getting a Lumia 900, but I really do not want to go back to AT&T. My HD7 is still running just fine so I'll hold off until more news comes out about a WP8 phones or new Nokia phones on T-Mobile"

Entegy also added some advice for those considering either the 800 or 900, "Do you have LTE in your area? If not, get the 800."

The device's temperature seems to be an issue for YourHero: "I am thinking about emailing Amazon to see if I may have some grounds to get a new one. Phones should not run that hot out of the box."
