A man who was injured in a bottle attack at a party held by the smartphone firm BlackBerry has died, police said.

Phillip Sherriff, 37, suffered a neck injury at Pulse nightclub in central London after a performance by the Brit award-winning singer Jessie J.

Ashley Charles, 25, has been charged over the attack, which police are now investigating as murder.

Sherriff, a telecommunications professional from Preston, was rushed to the Royal London hospital after the incident on Tuesday night. He died on Sunday morning. Police said a postmortem examination would be arranged in due course.

Charles, a company director from Leicester, appeared in the dock at Camberwell Green magistrates court on Saturday accused of attempted murder. He was ordered to attend Inner London crown court on 20 April, and an application for bail was refused.
