Warnham crash toddler 'now stable'

A 22-month-old girl who was critically injured in a road crash is now in a stable condition in hospital, Sussex Police have said.

The collision in Warnham on Sunday left one woman dead and five members of her family, including the toddler, injured. All were travelling in a Honda Accord.

The 56-year-old woman who died has been named as Hawerun Nessa, from London.

A man and a woman from Epsom, in Surrey, who were in a Volkswagen Golf, also suffered injuries.

Officers still want to speak to anyone who saw the crash on the A24.

The toddler's two sisters, who are aged three and five, both remain in hospital with broken legs.

The 60-year-old man from Epsom, who was driving the Golf, is also still in East Surrey Hospital, Redhill, where he is being treated for a broken sternum.

Insp Phil Nicholas said: "A full investigation into this tragic incident is under way and we still want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who saw the vehicles in the area."

The accident happened at about 11:30 BST.

A post-mortem examination of Ms Nessa was expected to take place on Tuesday.
