Another month, another set of Android version usage statistics. Unsurprisingly, Android 2.3 Gingerbread continues its domination — over 63 percent of Android users are running some flavor of Gingerbread. Ice Cream Sandwich grew a good bit over last month, but it's only on 2.9 percent of handsets (up from 1.6 percent last month). Gingerbread usage has actually continued to grow all year despite being superseded by Ice Cream Sandwich; back in January, it was only on 55 percent of handsets. That's not all that surprising when you consider the high volume of Gingerbread devices produced and sold over the last few months, but it remains disappointing nonetheless. After about five months, Android 4.0 is lagging where 2.3 was, as well — by May of 2011, four percent of Android users were running Gingerbread. Here's hoping the upcoming HTC One X and One S launches start to tip things in favor of Android 4.0.
