Verizon has already said that it plans to launch family data plans in mid-2012, and now we're getting a look at what appears to be a data calculator to help families determine how much data they'll need to avoid an overage. The shared data plans haven't been announced, but it's expected that they'll offer families one large pool of gigabytes to share, much like current family plans come with a preset amount of minutes.

Verizon has already said that it plans to launch family data plans in mid-2012, and if you take a look at the calendar you'll see that we're marching ever closer to that time of the year. In case you were worried that Verizon changed its mind, an anonymous tipster has given Phone Arena what looks to be a screenshot of a calculator to help families determine how large a pool of data they'll need. There's no pricing or availability information given, but perhaps since the meter on the right side of the image increases in increments of 5GB we should expect the future plans to follow suit. While we have yet to see family data plans instituted on any major US carrier (AT&T is rumored to have one in the works), such a plan would see families sharing an amount of gigabytes over the course of a month, much like how current family plans offer one large shared pool of minutes.
