17 Year Old Boy Dies In Spate Of Stabbings In South London

In the past week South London has been hit by a spate of seven stabbings within a two-mile radius. The most recent has resulted in the death of a 17 year old boy in Brixton. Five of the attacks took place in the SW2 post-code leading the police to examine any possible links between the incidents.

The Metropolitan Police (Met) have released a statement following the most recent and fatal attack assuring locals that “police have increased patrols”.

Speaking to one woman on Moorslands Estate, where the fatality took place, this reaction is seen as too little too late:

“The police are nowhere to be seen. They only turn up when there’s a stabbing or a shooting. They aren’t part of the community in the first place, that’s why the boys show no respect.”

This is a feeling mirrored elsewhere in the community which has been shackled with a reputation of violent crime for decades. Another resident of the nearby Loughborough Estate was aware of the problems this could cause for the area as a whole: “Brixton has been fighting to shake off this image of guns and knives, this could damage so much hard work”. Local community leaders are urging people to bind together and support one another. Cindy Butts, an advisor of Trident urged, “we need to restore a sense of peace and order on the streets”.
