George Ryan Released From Home Confinement

Former Illinois Gov. George Ryan is now free to move about the state as he wishes. Ryan was released from home confinement Tuesday morning. Ryan was released from prison in January after serving five years of a 6 1/2 year sentence for his involvement in a licenses-for-bribes scandal during his time as Illinois Secretary of State.
Ryan, who had numerous appeals and calls for his release from prison rejected, was originally set to serve the remainder of his sentence at a halfway house on Chicago's West side but was transferred to home confinement shortly after his release. He still has to serve one year of court supervision. Ryan told Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed, “I feel wonderful. Freedom is a precious thing, and now I have mine."
