The canals around Little Venice are one of London's urban treasures, mixing picturesque waterways with superior pubs, bars and restaurants. The lock windlass of fun gets ratcheted up a notch this weekend, for the annual Canalway Cavalcade, organised by the Inland Waterways Association. This community festival has been running since 1983, and offers "a boaters’ gathering, a pageant of boats, trade shows and stalls, bands, kids’ activities, competitions, Morris Dancers, a real ale bar, a wide variety of snacks and food". If the weather holds, it sounds like a picture-perfect family day out.
Canalway Cavalcade at Little Venice. Saturday 4 May 10am-6pm; Sunday 5 May 10am-6pm, followed by music at 8pm and a procession of illuminated boats at 9pm; and Monday 6 May 10am-5pm. Entrance is free.
