Father-of-two killed in Morden betting shop attack

A father-of-two has been killed in an attack at a south London betting shop.

The victim, 55, who has not been formally identified, was found dead at a branch of Ladbrokes in Aberconway Road in Morden at 8:30 BST on Saturday.

Police have released an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the attack.

A police spokesman said it is not known if any money was taken from the betting shop, which is next door to Morden police station.

Det Ch Insp Nick Scola, from the Met's Homicide and Serious Crime Command, told BBC News the man was alone in the shop when his attacker walked in and forced his way behind the counter.

"We could see the victim had sustained a serious head injury," he said.

"At this point we still have no motive for the incident as we've yet to establish if any money was taken, although robbery is a strong consideration."

Mr Scola said the betting shop was next to a neighbourhood police office which wasn't manned at the time of the incident.

A post-mortem examination of the man's body is due to be held later. He was married with two children.
