Another year, another tribute to a Mies van der Rohe milestone: This year marks the 75th anniversary of Mies arriving in Chicago to head the architectural school at what was then known as the Armour Institute of Technology. Mies's Chicago arrival would usher in what is the Second Chicago School of architecture exemplified by the 860-880 N. Lake Shore Drive apartment buildings and the buildings that dot the current IIT campus. As we noted last year, Mies's influence on the Commercial Style was felt far beyond Chicago.

IIT's alumni association produced this video in conjunction with the Mies van der Rohe Society marking this seminal event in Chicago architecture.
