’80s and ’90s nostalgia knows no bounds. Because of that inexorable fact, a company is creating new digital comic spinoffs of five classic NBC shows: Saved by the Bell, Punky Brewster, Airwolf, Knight Rider, and Miami Vice. Lion Forge Comics plans to release the books in Q3 and Q4 of this year, announcing its acquisition of the rights today through a licensing deal with NBCUniversal. The books are going to be available on Kindle, iBooks, Nook, and Kobo.

We’re skeptical about how well these stories are going to translate to smartphone and tablet screen, but Lion Forge says it has a handful of experienced writers and artists on board for the project, including Joelle Sellner (Teen Titans, Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi) and Jason Johnson (Wetworks, Godstorm).

Seeing the likes of Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Mario Lopez rendered as bubbly, rainbow-hued caricatures of their teenaged selves is kind of surreal. And we feel a little betrayed; Zack Morris told us we didn’t have to go back to high school after graduating. But one good thing is that Lion Forge already has some experience resurrecting ’80s shows; back in March it partnered with World Events Productions to bring back Saber Riders. Who doesn’t remember Saber Riders?
