Hole in Blackshots Lane, Grays, to be investigated
- Published
A road is to close for about eight weeks as contractors fix a crater which appeared outside a cottage.
The hole first appeared in Blackshots Lane in Grays late last year and grew to more than 25ft (7m) across.
The cavity is a "dene hole", an underground gap left by chalk excavation in the 17th Century.
Thurrock Council said contractors will investigate conditions below ground before fixing the hole.
The council will close the lane between Wentworth Place and the Blackshots Leisure Centre next week.
The 007, 11, 22 and 201 bus services will be diverted.
