Gas Station Karaoke Couple Are Former Chicagoans & U. Of I. Alums

The bit was a prank by the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, in which a newscaster talks to people at the gas pump—it's called "Pumpcast News." But instead of a lame gag, the pair were hilarious and sang Bon Jovi's Livin' on a Prayer and Sweet Dreams by the Eurythmics.

In the video, Monifa is wearing a University of Illinois sweatshirt and the University posted on its Facebook page that the pair are alumni. Plus, they're former Chicago residents—they were founding members of Chicago’s Congo Square Theatre company before moving to California. Monifa has also acted at Steppenwolf Theatre.
