Cycling in our city surely has a promising future, but it also has a fascinating past: from the velocipedes and farthings of the Victorians, to Edwardian commuters negotiating their way around horse poo, to sporting challenges, leisure riding and the development of modern cycling provisions.
An upcoming talk and workshop at London Metropolitan Archives in Clerkenwell explores this history, while digging into the centre's rich archives. Leaf through original documents, photographs and maps, watch archive film, and hear from a series of guest speakers. As well as learning something about our city's pedalling past, you'll also get a friendly introduction to the various London records held at the Archive, free for anyone to peruse.
