Former 'Hammies' to Reopen Friday as 63 Bar and Grill

EDGEWATER — A new bar and grill, 63, is set to open Friday in the former Hamilton's bar location, owner Matt Fisher confirmed.

Fisher and his staff put the final touches on the rehabbed interior of the upscale establishment Tuesday afternoon.

Hamilton's — nicknamed "Hammies" by the throngs of college students who patronized the neighborhood institution since it opened 80 years ago — closed in October after Loyola University bought the building from the bar's owners.

Fisher, 45, saw the location as "up for grabs." He also opened The Boarding House with former "Check, Please!" star Alpana Singh in December and owns River North restaurant Bistronomic.
