CHICAGO — A Melrose Park man died Saturday of a gunshot wound that pierced his head in Grand Crossing  — some five months after he was shot, authorities said.

Reginald Thomas, 55, of the 7700 block of West Grand Avenue in suburban Melrose Park, died of complications from that wound at Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Melrose Park at about 1:30 p.m. Saturday, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Thomas was shot about 12:30 a.m. on  July 11 as he and a 57-year-old woman sat in a car in the 7200 block of South Dobson Avenue, said Amina Greer, a Chicago Police Department spokeswoman.

A dark-colored car pulled up near Thomas and the woman, and someone inside shot at Thomas' vehicle, Greer said.

Both were sent to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital with gunshot wounds to the head and released.

No one has been arrested for the shooting. There may have been more than one shooter, Greer said.
