Apocalypse At The Archives: Trace The Destruction Of London

Fire, brimstone, plague, floods, war and pestilence: these are but some of the ways that London has been challenged over the years. (OK, perhaps not brimstone.) London Metropolitan Archives (LMA) in Clerkenwell is holding a day of calamity and apocalypse, as it uncovers the tracings of doom in its public records.

It's a day of two halves. In the morning, visitors will be shown documents relating to disasters, including photos, fire brigade records, and bills of mortality. Later, participants will be sent out looking for physical places connected to these artifacts, in a photographic treasure hunt. The day is aimed at those who are interested in tying together histories and stories to physical places in the city, mixing archive research and the importance of exploration.

The event takes place on 11 May (10am-6pm) and costs just £10. Sign up here.
