Heathrow Terminal 2 named Queen's Terminal

Heathrow Airport's new £2.5bn Terminal 2 is to be named after the Queen.

Terminal 2 - The Queen's Terminal is due to open on 4 June 2014, 59 years after the original terminal was opened.

Construction work is due to be completed at the site in November, but it will under go six months of testing before it is officially opened.

The airport said it was "delighted that Her Majesty has kindly agreed to give her name to the new terminal".

The Queen opened the original terminal in 1955 when it became Heathrow's first permanent passenger terminal.

Since then passenger numbers at the airport have increased from two million in 1955 to 70 million in 2012.
