Police forced entry to a Brixton property.

Two people were shot as they tried to evict a tenant from a house in south London.

The man and the woman, both aged 59, were attempting to force a man to leave a house in Strathleven Road in Brixton.

Armed officers were called to the scene on Wednesday morning. They forced entry to a property and a 50-year-old man was arrested.

The arrested man was unarmed, but a gun was later found. He remains in custody at a south London police station.

Police said the victims were shot in the hip and leg and are in stable condition in hospital.

Gunshot wounds

The woman works for Metropolitan Housing and the man is a bailiff with Her Majesty's Courts & Tribunals Service.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "At this early stage it is understood that the two victims were involved in an eviction of a resident from a property."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We sent a responder in a car, two ambulance crews, London Air Ambulance and an officer.

"Staff treated two patients, a man reported to be in his 60s and a 59-year-old woman.

"They were both treated for gunshot wounds and taken as priorities to hospital.

"The woman was escorted by a doctor from the air ambulance."

The pair were both conscious when they were taken to hospital, she said.
