Console gamers, you can finally put down the copy of Diablo for the original PlayStation that you've been jealously guarding for the last 15 years. Blizzard today confirmed a September 3 release date for the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Diablo III.
The current-gen console versions will retail for $59.99 and include all of the updates for the PC version. There will also be user interface and control modifications as well as new couch and online co-op modes to make the game work better on consoles. The September 3 date applies to the US, Canada, Spanish-speaking Latin America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand. Brazil, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia will also receive the console versions "at a later date."
It's been a long road to get Diablo III to the living room. Blizzard first hinted back in 2008 that Diablo III was "possible" on consoles. Then, last year, the developer said that the game was coming to unnamed consoles, months before saying it was up and running on consoles inside the developer's offices. Blizzard next joined the PlayStation 4's coming out party in February to announce that the game would be coming to both the PS4 and the PS3.
The announcement had no hints about an Xbox One version of the game, though there's also been no mention that Sony has any sort of exclusive claim to the "next generation" ports.
