Chicago has more Bascule bridges in operation than any other city on the planet, which is astounding when you take the time to consider it. The Wells Street bridge rehab project captivated the city and made for amazing photography, while the Chicago Avenue Bridge, Division Street’s two bridges and the North Ashland Avenue Bridge recently made the Landmarks Preservation Council of Illinois' list of the 10 most historic places in the state.

Which brings us to today's installment of "Chicagoist Weekend Theater." This hour-long documentary on Chicago's drawbridges recently aired on WYCC TV and is a captivating look at the history of the city's bridges from the first wooden footbridges to today's drawbridges lining downtown and beyond.
